Blog Post #10

Data Collection

As a teacher, I think that I will be using data collection a lot throughout my educational career. Microsoft Excel is a huge tool with gathering information, creating tables, and formulas. I have used it in my marketing internship, just to gather information about social media and compare it to the past. As an educator, I feel like I can apply this to anything administrative for my students, whether it be grading, attendance or projects. For grades, I could figure out students' averages or what they need to get on an assignment to do well in the class. In the realm of surveys, I would be interested in using Qualtrics to gather information from parents of students. Finding out what worked and what didn't work could help the continuation of growth as a teacher.

Classmate's Blogs

One of my favorite blog posts to read from my classmates was the ILP Participation and ILP Design. Because this blog allowed us to have more freedom, I was excited to see what everyone picked as their technology to share with the class. I liked that it was on a VoiceThread too because I got to hear my classmates talk me through the technology and teach me more about things that I didn't know. When reviewing their blogs, I also enjoyed seeing everyone's layouts and what they wanted their blog to represent. After all, the blogs were about branding yourself as an educator and learner. It was great to see everyone's thoughts reflected online.

What's Next?

A technology skill that I would love to learn next is a little more advanced. I would love to dive into coding, the backends of websites, and especially more about Adobe Creative Cloud. A lot of the jobs that I want to pursue require proficiency in Adobe, and I have never had access or the ability to learn more about them. I have dabbled in a few of the applications but never felt confident in them. I would love to learn about Photoshop, Premiere, and InDesign so that I could set myself apart as a job applicant. I will probably have to self-teach myself in the future by using Lynda or YouTube tutorials because I don't see a situation where anyone will train me after receiving the job.

  1. Learning coding would definitely be really interesting. I think that using technology as a way to set yourself apart from others in the job market is a great idea.

  2. Learning Adobe Premier and other Adobe features would certainly help you with marketing and video content! I love that you have goals and are working toward achieving them.
