Data Collection As a teacher, I think that I will be using data collection a lot throughout my educational career. Microsoft Excel is a huge tool with gathering information, creating tables, and formulas. I have used it in my marketing internship, just to gather information about social media and compare it to the past. As an educator, I feel like I can apply this to anything administrative for my students, whether it be grading, attendance or projects. For grades, I could figure out students' averages or what they need to get on an assignment to do well in the class. In the realm of surveys, I would be interested in using Qualtrics to gather information from parents of students. Finding out what worked and what didn't work could help the continuation of growth as a teacher.  Classmate's Blogs One of my favorite blog posts to read from my classmates was the ILP Participation and ILP Design. Because this blog allowed us to have more freedom, I was excited to see w...

ILP Design: Canva

Image
For my ILP Design, I did a Voicethread about Canva. Check it out here: https://voicethread.com/share/12395674/  I wanted to do my ILP on Canva because it is a technology that I already use all the time. I am familiar with basic graphic design and creating graphics for an organization that I am a part of. I have never created anything for an educational purpose, so I thought it would be helpful to me, and my classmates, to explore this. Below, you can see the Lesson Plan that I created from the Voicethread:

Flipgrid I've used Flipgrid to record my opinion on "The Flipped Classroom." Check it out on our group page! Open Educational Resources On the OER Commons website, it says, "Open Educational Resources (OER) offer opportunities for systemic change in teaching and learning content through engaging educators in new participatory processes and effective technologies for engaging with learning." Their goal is allow teachers to be more than just instructors and collaborate with one another, to improve the quality of learning for their students. On their website, they have thousands of resources available on all kinds of subjects, ranging from math to law. After choosing what subject you want a resource from, you can go even further searching. Each resource has a rating from other teachers and a brief overview of what the resource will include. I found this very helpful for anyone who is looking for great resources for their classroom! Here's a link to t...

New Skills from Diigo When using Diigo, I have mostly benefited from the Chrome extension! It makes marking up, highlighting, and annotating any article on the web easier than ever. Before, I would have to save the article as a PDF and then print it to be able to physically mark it up. But with the power of technology and Diigo, it has made it so much easier for me to do so. I don't know how I feel about the sharing and posting aspect of Diigo, sometimes it is a little difficult to find specific articles. When there are so many people in a group on Diigo, you have to scroll around until you discover what you were looking for. It's not my favorite aspect of the application. Powerpoint Learning For the understand and remember  sections of Bloom's Taxonomy, I would simply use a Powerpoint slideshow with text and images to recall basic facts and explain concepts to my students. Because those two are at the bottom of the pyramid, they are simple to implement into my every...

Twitter Using Twitter in an educational and professional setting has definitely been a different experience. I've used Twitter for a class before, but we only had to tweet about our weekly readings instead of interacting with others and finding more resources. For this class, I have learned more about how hard it can be to create your PLN, especially in a specific field like education. For some, it may easier to find different hashtags and accounts that are relevant to you, but it has been a little more difficult for me. I haven't experience any issues, it's just hard to come up with content, especially when we are forced to have a certain number of tweets.  Web Design I have not necessarily acquired any new skills from the Web Design assignment, I already knew how to build a website from a template, like Weebly. I don't like that there is not much creative freedom and that you must choose from a template to help guide you. While that is helpful for the beginnin...

Teacher Pages I decided to search Raa Middle School, a school that I volunteered at a couple of semesters ago. Under the teacher's tab, I found that a few of the teachers had websites. I clicked on "Mrs. Weaver's website", which led me to the Middle School Dance webpage. The website is open to the public and you don't need a student or parent login to access information. On the home page, Mrs. Weaver has information about the summer camps and uniforms that students need to purchase. There are a few tabs about the different dance classes that are available to students, information that parents need, and a "Meet the Instructor" page. The website doesn't have the best design, but it has useful information for parents, students, and prospective students as well.  Link to website:  https://raadance.weebly.com/  Here's a screenshot of Mrs. Weaver's introduction: Using Technology In the future, I see myself using technology constantly t...
